A Whole-Child Approach to Learning

At Bright Years Academy, learning shines through curiosity, creativity, and connection. Developed over more than 30 years, our proprietary Bright Years Curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support every aspect of a child’s growth, development, and early learning experience.

Every child learns differently, which is why our curriculum meets children where they are and encourages them to grow through meaningful play, exploration, and discovery. From infancy through preschool, each experience is shaped by three interconnected pillars that support the development of the whole child. Together, they create a balanced early learning experience that nurtures:

  • Academic Growth
  • Emotional Wellness
  • Creative Self-Expression

Bright Minds Early Education Framework

The Bright Minds Early Education Framework is the academic growth pillar of our Bright Years Curriculum. Early years are the optimal time for awakening young minds through exploration and discovery, as each child is gently challenged to reach their personal best at their own pace.

Classroom Learning Centers

Every day, every classroom is filled with opportunities to learn, explore, create, and play. Through our play-based early childhood education model, children enjoy thoughtfully designed classroom learning centers for circle time, creative arts, dramatic play, science exploration, music and movement, outdoor experiences, and more.

Our Teachers get to know each child and build upon their individual interests, creating meaningful experiences that support social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development while encouraging curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

CT Early Learning & Development Standards (CT ELDS)

Our early childhood curriculum aligns with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS), helping ensure children receive developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support growth throughout every stage from Infants, Young Toddlers, Toddlers, and Preschool.

Teachers use these standards, along with Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), to guide learning in cognition, social and emotional development, physical development and health, language and literacy, creative arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

Learning Experience Plans

Depending on the age group, Teachers create weekly or monthly Learning Experience Plans around themes that reflect the interests of the children in their classroom. Activities are thoughtfully designed to meet children at their individual stages of growth and development, with learning introduced through play, exploration, and gentle guidance.

Learning Experience Plans may include circle time, songs, stories, art projects, science experiments, music and movement, outdoor games, dramatic play, and more. Throughout the day, Teachers also respond to children’s natural curiosity and take advantage of meaningful “teachable moments” as they happen.

Observations, Portfolios, & Conferences

Our Teachers continuously observe and document each child’s developmental progress using the Connecticut Documentation & Observation for Teaching System (CT DOTS).

Throughout the year, children’s artwork, writing, and classroom experiences are collected in individual portfolios that celebrate their progress and achievements over time. Families meet privately with Teachers twice each year to review developmental progress, discuss goals, and receive a personalized Narrative Summary with goals for the coming months.
